In the face of the rapid urban change locally and globally, Urban Design al UPM is focused on establishing innovative and responsive tropical climate techniques for design and practice, advancing the role of design in shaping the future form and performance of our cities and improving the well-being of their residents. Urban Design is one of the key practices confronting the critical issues affecting cities, such as climate change, population shifts, contemporary workplaces, and transformations in the industry, technology and infrastructure.
Master of Tropical Urban Design (MTUD) program at UPM emerges from a long legacy ot architectural and landscape design-based research as well
as teaching and practice within the Faculty of Design and Architecture. The program is also integrated with postgraduate coursework in the programs of Architecture and Landscape Architecture at UPM and the Southeast Asian region in which it is our primary territory of study. The proposed program introduces a different approach to Urbanism and Urban Design aimed at creating liveable cities and being underpinned by themes including Urban Agriculture and its application in future planning of cities, Urban Revitalisation as a preferred option to Urban Redevelopment and creation of transit-oriented communities. Strong emphasis is placed on designing a. planning in tropical and subtropical settings.
Candidates must have a Bachelor Degree in the built environment from an institution recognized by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MCA) or its equivalent approv. by the UPM Senate; Candidates must have a Bachelor degree in Architecture, Urban Planning, Landscape Architecture and other disciplines related to the Design and Architecture field with a minimum CGPA of at least 2.75.
•OR Candidates with a CGPA of 2.50 and 2.7,1 in bachelor degree in Architecture and other relevant disciplines must have at least three (3) • years of working experience in the field of Urban Planning, Architecture or Landscape Architecture.
ENGLISH REQUIREMENT FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
All international candidates from countries where English is not its first language should earn a minimum score of 550 in TOEFL or level 6.0 in IELTS.
