Landscape Architecture has been described as a green profession for the 21st century. In many developed countries it is one of the fastest growing professions. Landscape Architects today contributed significantly in solving environmental issues such as global warming; land, water, and air pollution; urban sustainability; forest conservation, etc. at the local and international levels.
Landscape Architects are well-trained professionals who plan, design and manage the landscapes. Landscape Architects deal with external spaces or the outdoors to create quality living environments in harmony with nature. Helping to create a balance between human needs and nature’s limitations through sensitive planning and design has been the main focus of landscape architecture. Thus, Landscape Architects can provide their expertise by advising clients in the best way to plan and design small and large scale spaces like home gardens, community parks , and nature friendly/environment friendly housing development. Landscape architects are also called in to provide expertise in multi-disciplinary teams to plan for large scale townships such as Putrajaya, Cyberjaya, Nusajaya, etc. Other Landscape architects advise foresters on the best forest logging strategy to maintain scenic views of forests and to design forest recreation areas. Landscape Architects design waterfronts such as the Kuching Waterfront and the Lumut Waterfront. Their expertise can also be utilized in creating appropriate landscapes for historical sites, constructed wetlands, river corridors, bioengineering-based slope mitigation, etc. On the other hand many graduates of landscape architecture are also involved either directly or indirectly in teaching and research in universities, community colleges and schools.
