This full time programme is offered by the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology, University Putra Malaysia (UPM), Serdang. The duration of study for a B. Sc. (Hons) in Cell and Molecular Biology is eight semesters (four years), with a total of 128 credit hours.
Cell and molecular biology programme emphasizes the understanding of the organization and regulation of cell function at the molecular level. This includes knowledge of the structure and function of biomolecules as well as their involvement in various cellular activities, reproduction and growth of the organism. Understanding of the mechanisms of cell and molecular biology techniques can help resolve questions related to the functions of life systems. Knowledge and skills in this area will also lead to the rapid development of the biotechnology industry based on the manipulation of life-stage system cells to produce new products such as high-quality crop genes, drugs for the treatment of various human and animal diseases, as well as quality health products.

A molecular and cell biologist may find themselves working on research that involves cloning, sub cloning, synthetic RNA transcription, gene expression, cell growth and development, cell and organelle structure and assembly, and DNA dynamics and chromosome structure, and other types of laboratory work. Recording and analyzing various types of data are important parts of working as a molecular and cell biologist. Proper application of research to solve health problems and cure diseases will also be an option for molecular and cell biologists.
