What will you learn?

The Bachelor of Music programme encompasses various courses, with an emphasis on music aspects as performance, music technology, composition and therapy Music, aimed at producing skilled and knowledgeable music professionals. In addition, students will have the opportunity to become members of the Symphony Orchestra, the ensembles of contemporary or classical music, and choir. The department provides a Multimedia Laboratory, Music Technology Laboratory, Recording Studio, Music Education Laboratory, Gamelan Laboratory, Piano Laboratory, Bass Laboratory, Percussion Laboratory and Orchestra Practice Halls, as well as Instrumental Practice Rooms to facilitate the learning of music, in line with current learning needs. The programme has the potential to produce world-class musicians.

Eligibility

BACHELOR OF MUSIC

Candidates must fullfill the University General Requirements and Specific Programme Requirements:

University General Requirements

Pass in the Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM)/its equivalent with a credit in Bahasa Melayu/Bahasa Malaysia or a credit in Bahasa Melayu/Bahasa Malaysia July Paper; and

STPM Minimum Qualification

  • Pass in the STPM Examination with at least: CGPA 2.00 and at least grade C (GP 2.00) in General Studies; and grade C (GP 2.00) in two other subjects; or

Matriculation/Foundation Minimum Qualification

  • Pass in the Matriculation/ Foundation Examination with at least CGPA 2.00; or

Diploma or its equivalent

  • Diploma in appropriate field or other qualification which is approved by the UPM Senate; and

At least Band 1 in the Malaysian University English Test (MUET).

Specific Programme Requirements

STPM Minimum Qualification

  • A minimum of Grade C (GP 2.00) in two of the following subjects at STPM level; or

Matriculation/Foundation Minimum Qualification

  • A minimum of Grade C (2.00) in two of the following subjects at Matriculation/ Foundation level; or

Diploma Minimum Qualification

  • A Diploma in a relevant field or any other qualification recognised by the UPM Senate; or
  • A Diploma in Music from institution approved by UPM Senate; Malaysian Institute of Art, Akademi Seni Budaya dan Warisan Kebangsaan Malaysia (ASWARA), UiTM, International College of Music, UMS, Yamaha Music Malaysia, Lim Kok Wing University Creative Technology, Ocean Institute of Audio Engineering, University College Sedaya International, Kolej Tunku Abdul Rahman, HELP University College and Taylor’s University College; or
  • A Diploma of Education in Music field, Ministry of Education Malaysia; and

Pass Music ABRSM Gred 5 (theory and practical) or its equivalent; and

Pass the audition conducted by UPM.
