What will you learn?

The Doctor of Philosophy programme is a comprehensive research programme that is designed to provide prospective educational leaders with the knowledge and skills essential in conducting research related to leading and managing an educational institution. The programme provides students with an in-depth framework of current issues related to school educational leadership. Students would be able to examine critically the various research that has been conducted in the area of educational leadership. Students would also analyze the effect of changing educational environment on educational leaders and develop a critical understanding of the effects of decisions that they make on their institutions.

Eligibility

Applicants for the PhD programme at the University of Malaya must satisfy the following requirements: 

  1. A master’s degree by way of research; or
  2. A master’s degree by coursework or  by mixed mode with CGPA of not less than 3.7; or
  3. A master’s degree by coursework or by mixed mode with CGPA between  2.0 and 3.69 and an undergraduate degree with CGPA not less than 3.0; or
  4. A master’s degree by coursework or by mixed mode with CGPA between  2.0 and 3.69 and an undergraduate degree  with CGPA between  2.5 and 2.99, and one (1) of the following criteria:
    1. relevant work experience;
    2. publication in the relevant field;
    3. applicant is a scholarship holder;
    4. applicant is a University of Malaya graduate.
  5. Applicants with a Bachelor’s Degree with CGPA of not less than 3.7 may be admitted to the PhD Programme.  These candidates are required to defend their candidature in a research progress seminar to be held on a date two (2) semesters from the initial registration date; failing which the candidature may be converted to the relevant Master’s degree.

English Language Requirement for Non-Malaysian
TOEFL – score 550; or
IELTS (Academic) – band 6.00; or

Pass English Language course offered by University of Malaya (UMCCed) ; or

Who possesses a degree or degrees from a university or an institution of higher education where the medium of instruction is in English language.
