What will you learn?

The Master of Malay Studies programme by coursework requires candidate to complete the compulsory coursework prepared by the Faculty, and any electives chosen by the candidate. At the end of the period of study, a research paper must be submitted. Candidates are required to complete their studies within 3 semesters to 8 semesters.

Classes and elective course options are dependent on the department students join. The department choices are:

Malay Language Department

Malay Linguistics Department

Malay Literature Department

Malay Socio-Cultural/Malay Arts Department

Eligibility

• National Higher School Certificate (or an Advanced Level equivalent) with the grade 80% and above

Or

• A Diploma from recognized Institutions with at least a CGPA of 3.00.

• Applicant may be required to undergo an interview session for certain selection program before being accepted by the respective faculty.

 Students are required to enrol in the Malay Language Program prior to being conferred a degree.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

Students must obtain:

• TOEFL score of 500 (PBT), 173 (CBT) or 60 (IBT) and above

Or

• IELTS Band 5.0 - 6.5 and above

Or

• Pass in any equivalent English proficiency test approved and recognized by the University of Malaya.
